Adventures in Iowa. Part One.

Last Friday I had an opportunity to go to work with the handsome one. I was pretty excited when I found out that we were sorting calves for a couple of hours. It couldn't be too hard, right? They are so cute. So little. So harmless.

Boy, I was so wrong.

As we were driving to the field that had all the little calves in it Mr. B turned to me and ordered, "Whatever you do, don't scream okay?"

"Psh, I'm not gonna scream. Do I look like I scream?" I shot back.

He eyed me with a smirk on his face.  His eyes..they get me every time.

As we pulled up to the lot, we both got out of the truck, walked to the gate and hurdled over it. I was a tad rusty and almost face planted.

But besides that, I was struttin' my stuff. Feeling big and tough.

Wearing work boots does that to you.

"You might want to stay a few feet behind me until you get a feel of what's goin' on," Mr. B said.

"What's so hard? I've got my boots on." I reassured him.

The calves were already wild and running away from us, so Ted and Mr. B started running toward them hoping to get them all in the shed the first time.

And they did! So I ran up by the shed to see how everything was done, how to load them into the trailer and such.

This is when I almost died.

Standing right in front of the gate I saw the whole herd of them circle around and start running toward me when all the sudden the front leader spotted me and tried to stop. It didn't really work out the best because all the rest of them kept slammin' into each other like a bad accident. I jumped to the side of the shed right before they bombarded through the gate, breaking it off the hinge and running back into the pasture.

I couldn't move.

My legs were shaking uncontrollably.

"Are you okay?" Mr. B asked.

"I almost got trampled over! Did you see that? They almost ran me over! I can't move my legs," I stammered. "Cows are mean!"

*Insert legs shaking so bad you can see them through 2 layers of clothing*

From then on, I stayed a good ways behind and snapped some photos of my man hard at work.

He's really photogenic.

He meaning his rear.

After he pulled the truck forward from unloading, I got to run and pull the gate shut so they couldn't get out. I showed them who was boss.

But I wasn't cool enough to get a hitting stick. Maybe I'll get one for Christmas.

And just so we're all clear-my boots did in fact get dirty.

And I had a good time.

And I now have restless leg syndrome.
