Santa who?

Raise your hand if you believe in Santa Claus.

Jason, put your hand down.

Raise your hand if you are going to let your children someday (or presently) believe that he's real.

Jason, really?

I have to be honest here, I'm on the fence with the whole Santa thing. Growing up I was never led on to believe that there was this fat man that came down our chimney to give us gifts. And even if I was told he was real, there were three things that would definitely be a little suspicious to me.

1-Our chimney didn't lead to a fireplace, therefore he'd probably have to become good friends with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.
2-If there were reindeer in Iowa just roaming around, they would probably get shot by deer hunters.
3-Cookies never lasted long at our house. We made them, and ate them. There was none of this saving them for later concept.

Sometimes I just feel like parents are letting their children believe in a creepy old man! That song about him that says "He sees you when your sleeping, he knows if you're awake, he knows if you've been bad or good so be good for goodness sake"

Oh man, stage five creeper.

I'm watchin' you Santa.

*Sorry I picked on you Jason, please don't hit me with your 200 pounds of body mass. I might fly across the room, hit the wall, start shaking uncontrollably and die.

Wait, that only happens with cats.

Ooh you beat me too it! I've been meaning to post about this for a few weeks now. My style of posting doesn't really lend well to controversial topics though, because I usually get in and get out with little preparation.

I also didn't grow up believing in Santa. From a Christian stance I've read a lot lately that we should accept St. Nick, which I also have a hard time with . . .

Our family will not be perpetuating a lie, but will still put up our pagan tree.

FYI, you should feel really special that Leah commented. She is Mrs. Popular in the blog land and I love her! :)

We have discussed this and are going to do it the same way we were raised (we = me and you)... that we mention him, but we all knew from the beginning that he was fake. Never once did we actually believe in him. Okay, maybe Jason did, whatever.

I think it's fun to take kids to see Santa, and that sort of thing at Christmas. But that will be the extent of Santa in our household.
